All About The Institute of Biomedical Science

The IBMS was founded back in 1912. The institute was set up in order to represent biomedical scientists working in the United Kingdom. Currently there are over 16,000 members that are mainly employed in the NHS, and privatised laboratories such as the National Blood Authority, Medical Research Council, and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs, amongst others.
Others that have a membership for the institute hold job positions in placements like teaching and commercial fields that are related to biomedical science and those that practise it.

Aside from the above listed responsibilities of the institute, they also provide a wide range of events for professionals. One such event is the well-known Biomedical Science Congress. This is in fact, the largest event of such a nature in the United Kingdom.

Also, each year, they release a monthly and three monthly paper that us set up to notify those in the industry about the latest news, reports that are on offer to be read, opinions of other professionals and a lot more besides. They also offer a very precise guideline for those that are looking for information pertaining to a career in biomedical science.

The network is not just located in one area; they are spread out among the UK, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Ireland and of course Gibraltar. The fact that they are so spread out of course helps to create a more wide spread network and helps to keep those keen on biomedical science, completely up to date with practises in the industry. There are a lot of organised meetings that take place as a result and of course this helps science to develop further.

In order to be able to register as a biomedical scientist, individuals must be working in the UK and have received the appropriate medical qualification that classifies that they have adequate knowledge and expertise in biomedical science. Once this is proven, a certificate of competence will be issued.
All in all the Institute of Biomedical Science is a great group, which will help the future of biomedical science.
